Wikipedia: Elijah is a priest as well as a prophet. Elijah, Israel's accuser before God, was received among the heavenly inhabitants, where he records the deeds of men. Elijah is also equated with the Archangel Sandalphon, whose four wing beats will carry him to any part of the earth. Elijah is associated with pre-Christian lightning gods in many other European traditions.
